HP Improves Passenger Experience at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport.

PALO ALTO, Calif., Dec. 20, 2011

HP today announced that its networking solutions were selected to build a wireless internet infrastructure to improve passenger services at Haneda Airport’s new international terminal in Tokyo.

Tokyo International Airport Terminal Corporation (TIAT) is responsible for the construction and operation of the Haneda international airport terminal. With 18 domestic and foreign airlines serving direct connections to 17 international cities, Haneda Airport is the world’s fifth busiest airport – handling more than 60 million passengers each year. TIAT understands that continually driving innovation and improving passenger service is key to success in the competitive aviation industry.

To offer an unrivaled travel experience, TIAT needed to meet the demand for passenger internet connectivity and manage the increased volume of travelers’ baggage at Haneda Airport.

TIAT selected HP to establish a wireless local area network (WLAN) that covers nearly all areas of the terminal, which spans across more than 150,000 square meters. Using HP MSM Access Points, TIAT is able to provide reliable, secure public wireless internet service in terminal lounges and departure zones. The access points also enabled TIAT to develop an enhanced wireless system for improved baggage handling and collection.

HP MSM Access Points allow each connection point to automatically establish the most optimal connection route. If any WLAN access point suffers a failure, an alternative access point is automatically found and the connection is instantly recovered. This minimizes network downtime, improves the stability of the wireless network and allows travelers to enjoy uninterrupted connectivity.

HP Networking is helping TIAT in its pursuit of its Instant-On Enterprise. In a world of continuous connectivity, the Instant-On Enterprise embeds technology in everything it does to serve customers, employees, partners, and citizens with whatever they need, instantly
