China: Public buses to connect with free Wi-Fi in Beijing.

Public buses in Beijing, China, will be mobile Internet hotspots for commuters to connect to the Web through Wi-Fi, following a deal signed between China Mobile and the city's bus service provider.

A Xinhua report Friday said state-owned Beijing Public Transport signed an agreement with China Mobile's Beijing subsidiary which will see the operator provide Wi-Fi services on the city's public buses.

According to the report, mobile Internet hotspots will be installed on the buses and allow passengers with Wi-Fi-enabled devices to connect to the Internet for free through China Mobile's network.

Passengers will also be able to access information on bus routes, public transport services, and promotions provided by shops along the bus routes through the free online connection, it noted.

Xinhua said this marked the first Wi-Fi service to be offered on buses in the country. China Mobile, however, did not announce when the service will be launched, it added.
