LG Electronics announced Optimus Pad LTE, its first tablet device with integrated LTE connectivity. It also includes a True HD IPS display, which the vendor said means it includes “the two features that have helped LG differentiate its latest smartphone, Optimus LTE.”

The device is powered by Android 3.2 (Honeycomb), rather than the latest Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), and the company has not announced its intention to make available an upgrade. It has an 8.9-inch screen, and is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor.

Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Mobile, said: “With tablets generating five times more traffic than the average smartphone, it’s not a huge jump to assume that tablet users need and want faster connectivity. The combination of LG’s LTE technology with the tablet form factor is a clear advantage for consumers who use a tablet as their primary consumption device when on the move.”

LG has not announced pricing details for the product, which will initially be available in South Korea. International availability has also not been disclosed.
