Skyhook technology allows Kindle Fire location role.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesús.

Location technology vendor Skyhook said that its technology can be used to enable location-based services in Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet, a device which “does not provide any location services natively.”

It said that transport apps company HopStop has integrated the technology into its app, to enable the delivery of location-based information to consumers.

Skyhook said that any Android app which uses its technology will work automatically on the Kindle Fire, without any changes.

Ted Morgan, founder and CEO of Skyhook, said: “While the native platform provides no way for location-based apps to perform their core functionalities, Skyhook is happy to provide our fast and reliable location for popular apps like HopStop and MapQuest, which require it.”

Skyhook provides an SDK for developers across “most” platforms.

Skyhook, the world leader in location information, context and intelligence, today announced that announced that HopStop, a leading provider of transit routing, has integrated Skyhook's Location Engine in its Kindle Fire app to provide location services.
The current version of the Kindle Fire does not provide any location services natively. However, any Android app that uses Skyhook will automatically work on the Kindle Fire without any changes.

“Since Skyhook is currently the provider of location on all of our other Android apps, it made sense to use Skyhook location services on our Kindle Fire app,” said Joe Meyer, CEO of HopStop. “They were able to help us tune and test the app until location was running smoothly.”

“Kindle Fire has been an extremely popular device since its release and continues to grow,” said Ted Morgan, founder and CEO of Skyhook. “While the native platform provides no way for location-based apps to perform their core functionalities, Skyhook is happy to provide our fast and reliable location for apps like HopStop and MapQuest, which require it.”

HopStop's free app is available today in the Android Market, and can be downloaded here; and is also available in the Amazon Appstore and can be downloaded here. Skyhook provides an SDK for developers across most platforms and can be downloaded here.
