Nokia Partners with China Mobile to Launch the Lumia 920T, the First TD-SCDMA Windows Phone.

 

GUANGZHOU - Nokia and China Mobile today announced the Lumia 920T, the first TD-SCDMA Windows Phone in China. With advanced location services, photography innovation, and fast mobile browsing on China Mobile's 3G network, the Lumia 920T offers Chinese consumers the most innovative smartphone experience.

The Lumia 920T uses Pureview's advanced floating lens technology, and takes in five times more light than competing smartphones without using a flash. This makes it possible for people to capture clear, bright pictures and video indoors and at night.

The Lumia 920T also has the world's most sensitive touchscreen, and thanks to Nokia's ClearBlack display technology offers better visibility in the brightest sunlight. The Lumia 920T also comes with the full suite of Nokia navigation applications, including Nokia City Lens.

As the largest operator in China, China Mobile will play a significant role in bringing the Lumia experience to more Chinese consumers with its expansive TD network coverage. Lumia 920T's powerful dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, partnered with China Mobile's high-speed 3G network, is set to deliver fast data connectivity. In addition to the rich applications available in Nokia's Marketplace, Lumia 920T users will enjoy the additional benefit of access to Mobile Market, China Mobile's application store, offering a large range of applications and services tailored for Chinese people, and an easy shopping experience

Strong, Growing Ecosystem

To further drive momentum of China's Windows Phone ecosystem, Nokia and Air China today announced a strategic partnership which lets consumers enjoy wireless chargers in Beijing Airport VIP lounges. Furthermore, Jiepang announced a service that lets consumers enjoy great deals by simply tapping their Lumia 920T using NFC in some outlets in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou.

Nokia demonstrated its commitment to local developers and entrepreneurs by launching the Nokia Experience & Innovation Center (NEIC), the Academy Program and most recently the Booster Program in partnership with the government and other companies. These initiatives provide fledgling innovative Internet developers and entrepreneurs with business advice, technical support and a low-cost operating environment in which to grow, helping them turn their ideas into applications. Price and Availability

The Lumia 920T will be available for order by the end of the year. It will retail at RMB 4599 without contract and come in four colours; black, white, yellow and red.

China Mobile to launch the Nokia Lumia 920 (T) in December.

The Nokia Lumia 920 was made official with a 4.5-inch PureMotion HD+ touchscreen, a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory, an 8-megapixel PureView photo snapper on the back, with full HD video recording, front camera for making video calls, GPS receiver etc, All those  features and  with a series of tweaks specific to the local market will have the Lumia 920 for China Mobile.

China Mobile and Nokia have  announced a launch event set for early December. The device will be launched as a Lumia 920T model for China Mobile.

Latest rumors on the device have also suggested that the phone might arrive on shelves with a Snapdragon MSM8960T S4 Pro chipset packed inside, with an Adreno 320 GPU next to it, representing an upgrade when compared to the initial variant, yet nothing has been confirmed as of yet. 

China Mobile’s logo is visible on the smartphone’s front and back (pictures below), and shows that it will indeed offer 4G connectivity to users (it will pack both TD-LTE and TD-SCDMA capabilities).

China: China Mobile`s  600 millions suscribers might get the next iphone , this fall.

Apple and China Mobile are cooperating to introduce the  next iPhone 5  to its 600 millions subscribers in China.

Compatibility issues between the iPhone and China Mobile's 3G network mean that currently Apple's handsets only work on the much slower 2G service.

The problem could be resolved with the launch of the next iPhone, rumoured to happen this fall, and when China adopts the 4G standard, (2014) analysts say.

Even though the iPhone is not yet in China Mobile's official product line-up, about 15 million of the company's customers are thought to be iPhone users already, having bought the phone through different channels.

Despite being the biggest telecoms provider, China Mobile is the country's only operator that does not support the iPhone.

Officially offering the iPhone to its subscribers could help China Mobile to get back the consumers it has lost to other carriers.

China Mobile chairman Xi Guohua mentioned the ongoing discussions between the two firms at a shareholders meeting in Beijing.

"We've been actively talking to Apple on how we can cooperate," he said.

"I can't give you too many details, but I'd like to repeat that both sides do hope to boost our cooperation."

Move to 4G

But once the Chinese authorities approve the new LTE (Long Term Evolution) standard, a flavour of 4G, the incompatibility issue could be resolved.

"The only catch is when the government here will approve LTE; right now we see trial deployments but don't expect LTE to be deployed here until 2014 at the earliest,"

If Apple wants to launch the iPhone 5 on China Mobile networks, this fall, the carrier have to make technical changes to allow the device run on 3G speeds at least.

China Mobile Hong Kong will launch LTE services next week, stating that “by the end of 2012, CMHK plans to scale up its 4G LTE coverage to a level on par with its current network, while indoor coverage will be up to 80 percent.”

 It has also launched a cross-border data plan, for customers using its network both in Hong Kong and in mainland China.

Marbridge Daily reports that China Mobile, the world’s largest mobile operator, is set to offer a Windows Phone-powered device supporting its TD-SCDMA 3G network “soon,” providing a significant boost for the Microsoft platform in the country.

Citing Pan Zhiyong, general manager of the operator’s Guangzhou branch, the report did not state which vendor would be manufacturing the device. However, HTC and Nokia were suggested as potential candidates.

At the GSMA Mobile World Congress last month, Nokia said it planned to “make a range of Lumia smartphones available in China, covering both CDMA and WCDMA technologies in the coming months.” This has been enabled by changes to the Microsoft platform both to support Chinese language requirements and to enable lower-cost smartphones using the OS.

Nokia also has a track-record of offering smartphones with TD-SCDMA support, powered by its legacy Symbian OS platform. It launched its first TD-SCDMA device in 2009.

HTC has also previously offered TD-SCDMA devices, powered by Android.

While China has long been a strong market for Nokia and Symbian OS, the company has come under increased pressure from rivals such as Samsung in recent months, with Android becoming the platform of choice in this market.

Apple has also recently begun sales of its iPhone through a second operator, China Telecom, alongside existing partner, China Unicom, although the lack of a TD-SCDMA variant has closed of China Mobile as a partner.

Apple poised to sell 40M iPhones in China.

Apple will partner with China Telecom and China Mobile in the next year, leading to incremental sales of up to 40 million iPhones in the next calendar year, 2013, according to a Morgan Stanley analyst.

 A note published by Katy Huberty and seen by AppleInsider suggested Apple could only reach 10 percent of the 150 million high-end subscribers in the country through its current deal with China Unicom, after the operator launched the iPhone 4S in the country in mid-January.

LTE: China Mobile and Clearwire going on joint testing plan for TD-LTE Devices.

China Mobile and Clearwire has agreed on common test specifications and joint interoperability testing (IOT) for TD-LTE devices in the global band configurations, including 2.3GHz to 2.7GHz in conjunction with the Global TD-LTE Initiative (GTI). This will enable the companies to further accelerate development of the TD-LTE device ecosystem, especially in multi-mode, multi-band LTE devices.

Beginning this month, China Mobile, Clearwire and other GTI operators will establish 4G mobile broadband labs featuring a joint test platform and IOT environment for TD-LTE devices. The expected availability of the Quad-Band LTE 2.3-2.7 GHz spectrum range, in addition to certain other bands like 1.9GHz, as well as FDD and TD-LTE mobility interactions, makes it an ideal global configuration for mass 4G marketing worldwide. The labs will allow for the evaluation and qualification of commercial TD-LTE devices simultaneously in the U.S., China, and other promising markets, using common testing methodology, equipment, and infrastructure.

Clearwire plans to conduct its TD-LTE common IOT in Phoenix, AZ and Herndon, VA. China Mobile's testing will be carried out in Beijing and other TD-LTE trial cities. The joint test platforms will be open for device IOT by key participants in early 2012
